The two areas have been working through the details for weeks. Shortly after that attack, local campaign group Bath Stands with Ukraine proposed a link between the council and Oleksandriya, which is roughly the same size as Bath. Home to around 75,000 people, the city was attacked in the early weeks of the war, when two missiles hit the airport in April 2022.
Oleksandriya is around 170 miles southwest of Kyiv, and about a 90-minute drive from Volodymyr Zelenskyy's hometown, Kryvyi Rih. Bath & North East Somerset Council has agreed a partnership with a central Ukrainian city, in a show of solidarity with the country.
